5 Simple Ways to get a "Homey" House

Everyone strives to make their house feel like a home but might not know where to begin.
You could start with one of these 5 easy ways.

1. Use Incandescent Lighting
I love lamps and they add warmth to a room that can't be beat. Using them at night for a cozy feeling that makes you just want to cuddle up and read a book.

2. Bring the Outdoors In
Plants. They bring a breathe of fresh air into a space. My preference is always real, but this black thumb has killed an abundance of God's creation, so if I find a deal I go with faux.

3. Create Vignettes
Creating vignettes (which means episode) is making a moment. You can basically do this anywhere, from an entry table, nightstand to kitchen counter. Two easy tips to creating a vignette is:
1. using sets of 3.
such as a plant, photo frame and candle.
2. vary heights.
If your frame is large, ideally have your plant 1/2 the size and then the candle 1/3, and vice versa.

4. Integrate the unexpected
Adding unconventional items can make your entire space work. Like this photo, taking a bold leap with the paint color, to using wingbacks in a bold stripe and the modern arm chairs for a dining room. Then adding the unexpected red birdcage chandeliers and a muted rug.
Don't be afraid to mix and match fabrics, woods and furniture styles.

5. Aware of the Senses
If you have read many of my posts by now you know I'm a major smell queen. Literally, I think I might have supersonic smelling powers. :)
But I think sometimes every other sense than the sense of sight is forgotten when it comes to the home. How do you feel when you walk into a house that smells like warm cookies, or pumpkin in the fall? We all have memories connected with certain scents, and what an easy way to do that when someone walks in your home.

What are some things you do to make your house a home?
